Wiring Methods of Current Transformers

Current transformers are important devices in power systems. Their main function is to convert high currents into low currents for use in measuring instruments, protective devices, or other electrical appliances. Correct wiring is crucial for ensuring the performance and safety of current transformers. The following are some common current transformer wiring methods:

I. Single-Phase Wiring

Single-phase wiring is the most basic wiring method and is suitable for measuring single-phase currents. Connect the P1 terminal of the current transformer to the power side and the P2 terminal to the load side, ensuring that the secondary side is grounded.

II. V-Type Wiring

V-type wiring is often used to measure the current of two phases in a three-phase three-wire circuit. Two current transformers are connected in series, and the secondary sides are connected in a V-shape to ensure accurate measurement of each phase current.

III. Three-Phase Star Wiring

In three-phase systems, the three-phase star wiring method is commonly used to measure the three-phase currents in a three-phase four-wire circuit. The secondary sides of the three current transformers are connected in parallel and then grounded, forming a star connection. This wiring method is suitable for current measurement of balanced loads.

IV. Incomplete Star Wiring

In some cases, when one phase in a three-phase system does not need to be measured, an incomplete star wiring method can be used. Two current transformers are connected in a star shape, and another current transformer is used separately. This wiring method is suitable for monitoring partial phase currents.

V. Precautions

1. Before wiring, be sure to Confirm that the Model and Specification of the current transformer match the measurement system.
2. Wire strictly in accordance with electrical safety regulations to ensure personal and equipment safety.
3. The secondary side of the current transformer should be reliably grounded to avoid errors and safety hazards.
4. Regularly check whether the wiring is loose, damaged, or aging, and repair or replace it in time.
5. During wiring, keep it clean and prevent dust and debris from entering the equipment.

In summary, the wiring method of the current transformer should be selected according to the specific application scenario and measurement requirements. The correct wiring method not only improves the accuracy of the measurement but also ensures the safe and stable operation of the power system. Therefore, in practical applications, it is necessary to strictly follow the relevant standards and requirements for wiring operations.
